Teachers in Saudi Arabia will be subjected to psychiatry tests before they are allowed to take up jobs at schools in the Gulf Kingdom, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
‘Ajel’ said the decision by the Ministry of Education came nearly a week after a teacher opened fire at his colleagues at a school in the Southern Jazan province, killing seven.
“The Ministry of Education is planning to introduce compulsory psychiatry tests for all teachers in coordination with the competent authorities before giving them a teaching permission,” the paper said, quoting ministry sources.
It said the ministry had also decided to investigate existing teachers who have medical files at psychiatry and psychology hospitals in the Kingdom.
