Sharjah Municipality is gearing up to deal with thousands of residents at its offices today, as tenants are expected to rush in to pay the rent contract attestation fee.

Tenants paying the attestation fee today will pay according to the existing rate of 2 per cent of their annual rent contract.

From August 1, 2016 – tomorrow – the fee will be four per cent of the annual rent contract.

Omar Sharji, Assistant Director General - Customer Service, Sharjah Municipality said: “Today is the last day of grace period given to tenancy contract attestation defaulters. Our lease attestation centres are ready to receive more than 6,000 customers.”

The lease attestation centres at industrial areas will receive customers from 7:30am to 5pm.

“No single contract will return without attestation,” the municipality said. On July 18, 2016, the Municipality announced the doubling of the fee.

Pursuant to the Executive Council Decision No 26 of 2016 concerning the modification of the fees schedule of tenancy contract attest in Sharjah, the new fee structure will come into force as of 1/8/2016 to be as follows, residential contract: 4 per cent of annual rent, commercial contracts: 5 per cent of annual rent and investment contracts: 3 per cent of annual rent.

Fees of lease agreement documents (of all types) will be Dh100, up from the existing Dh50.

Separately, the municipality has urged all real estate offices licensed to operate in the emirate to register with the municipality's e-tenancy contract service to get tenancy contracts attested through this service, which will become mandatory from September 1.
