2 passengers held with Rs6m worth of heroin

Sri Lankan customs officers caught two passengers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake at around 1pm on Sunday February 24 for trying to smuggle in 1.2kg of heroin valued at Rs 6 million, the ‘Divaina’ news paper has reported.

According to a customs spokesman, the two smugglers, an Indian male aged 43 and a Sri Lankan woman aged 50, had arrived in Colombo from Chennai via Trichy on Sri Lankan Airlines Flight UL123.

He said that each passenger had 600gms of heroin concealed in a consignment of salwars which the two were bringing to Colombo. The detection was made by Assistant Superintendent of Customs Udaya Gamini.


The suspects were later handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
