A 21-year old youth who was arrested over the non-payment of a mobile bill valued at over Rs3 million has been released on bail after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, his lawyer told ‘The Sunday Leader’.

He had been arrested last weekend following a complaint made by the mobile company over the non-payment of the mobile phone bill amounting to Rs3,212,454.87.

On a monthly rental of Rs96.77, the youth, a resident of Digana, Kandy in the Central province, had obtained the mobile connection on a credit limit of Rs7,500 last month and had sent the mobile SIM to his brother-in-law in Italy which had later gone missing.

The lawyer who appeared on behalf of the youth in the case said that they deem the SIM may have been used by someone after it was misplaced.
