Colombo: A monk allegedly raped two women and a minor in Sri Lanka on religious pretexts.

According to a report in ‘Lankadeep’, the suspect was wanted in several other criminal offences by various police stations.

He was popular among the masses for his ‘ability’ to cure illnesses.

The incident came to light when he promised to cure a woman’s husband of his kidney ailment.

He went to their home and asked the woman to accompany him to another room to do a ritual while her husband was lying in the adjacent room. And he molested her there.

That same day, he allegedly raped a pregnant woman who had come over to watch the rituals and later molested a 15-year-old girl outside her home.

The suspect had convinced the victim that the act was part of the ritual, police was quoted as saying.

The suspect has been arrested.
