A Sri Lankan man will be deported back to Sri Lanka after serving his five-and-a-half year sentence in Britain for raping a woman he met in a night club, the ‘Ada Derana’ newspaper reported.

The accused, identified as Narendran Pirabakaran, 35, of Station Road, Portsdale, had taken a 22-year-old woman, after splitting her from a group, to his flat while she was on a night out with friends.

The jury heard, following a trial at Lewes Crown Court, that she awoke in Station Road the following day without memory of leaving the club.

She had been able to show the officers the flat where she had awoken and suspected that she had been raped. The tenant Pirabakaran was arrested a few days later.

The judge ordered that Pirabakaran be deported after he completed his sentence.

Detective Constable Aran Boyt said, “Pirabakaran took advantage of a woman who was under the influence of alcohol.”
