Dubai-returned expat found hanging from fan

Colombo - A Sri Lankan man, who returned home with his wife and a daughter after four years in Dubai, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a house, the ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper reported.

Police said some scratches on the legs and a wound on the head have been found on the dead man who who has been identified as Hameed Mohamed Najibdeen (42) from Siribopura in Hambantota.

The dead man was staying in his brother’s house in Hunupitiya, Wattala where there were five female relatives and his wife at the time of the incident while the males were out of the house.

Police have started investigations to ascertain whether it was murder or suicide.

The wife of the dead man told police that she was unaware of any reason for him to commit suicide.

Woman abducted, raped in  rest house

A woman was abducted in a van, taken to a rest house and raped in Sri Lanka, the ‘Adi Derana’ has reported.

The victim, whose husband is employed abroad, was a mother of two children from Bogahawetiya area in Arachchikattuwa.

Police said a man had followed her while she had traveled to the town of Chilaw on September 28 and had forced her into a white van.

The victim informed the police about the incident on October 3.
