The Island reported that the suspects were from Kekirawa, Senapura and Polpithigama areas.

A couple who arrived from Nugathalawa in Welimada in the Uva provice, to purchase the fake gold grains, too were arrested by the police.

Police believe that an analysis of calls and numbers on five mobile phones seized from the suspects would lead them to further arrests.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Dambulla police.
