Following a concerned neighbour reporting an unbearable stench emanating from a house nearby to the police, a family of three, husband, wife and their eight-month old infant, was found dead inside a rented house in the Panadura police area, the ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported.

Police spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardana said that their deaths may have occurred three days before when the police found the bodies in a house on the Sagara Avenue.

He said the bodies of the woman and the infant were on a chair while the man had been found hanging and the owner of the house had been summoned to the police for an inquiry to determine the identity of the dead.

According to the investigations carried out so far revealed that the man would have murdered his wife and infant before committing suicide.

The dead has been identified as a 40-year old Niroshan Indika, a former Navy personnel and his wife, 35-year old Shirani Padmalatha and the infant’s name is unknown.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Panadura police.
