Firecracker explosion kills man in Colombo

A firecracker exploded suddenly while being lighted and killed a the lighter who was attending his friend’s wedding in Piliyandala, a suburb of Colombo, police said.

The ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported that the accident happened on Saturday night around 8.30pm near a reception hall in Piliyandala.

The man has been identified as Hapuarachchige Asiri Udara Sumanaratne (33), a tourist guide from Maitree Avenue, Egodawatte, Arawwala, Piliyandala.

He was declared dead when he was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

Piliyandala police is investigating the accident.
