Girl child molested inside shrine room

A 78-year-old acolyte of a temple in Sri Lanka was on Saturday arrested by the police on suspicion of severely molesting a five-year- old girl inside the Buddha shrine room, the ‘Mawbima’ has reported.

The child was attending a free service campaign at the temple with her mother.

When the woman was engaged in cleaning the temple with other devotees, the suspect had taken the child without the mother’s knowledge to the Buddha shrine room where he allegedly molested the victim.

After the child related the story, her mother lodged a complaint with the police. When the suspect was arrested, he was drunk and the police directed him to a doctor.

Police said the suspect was separated from his wife, sons and grandchildren.

He was due to be produced before the magistrate’s court.
