Honeymooning bride gang raped

Colombo - The leader of a gang has been arrested in Anuradhapura by the officers of the Unresolved Crimes Division of the Panadura Police for attacking a couple on honeymoon and gang-raping the wife.

The gang also robbed the couple of their jewellery and cash, in the Arukgoda area, ‘Sunday Mawbima’ reports.

Police said the gang entered the hotel pretending that they were the police and asked the couple to open their room.

The main suspect, as revealed by the police, is wanted for many crimes and had been released on bail after being arrested for drug trafficking about a year ago in Panadura area.

Panadura Police are investigating further.
Woman abducted near lake

An investigation by the Anamaduwa Police to apprehend two men for abducting a 37-year-old woman at a lake near a private nursing home where she had come for treatment, has commenced.

The men are accused of raping her, ‘Hiru Gossip’ reports.

The victim, a resident of the Wettamurukkuwa area, says the attack took place at 7pm on June 15.

In her complaint, she stated that she was a heart patient and came to meet a private doctor in the Andigama town on June 15. The two men forcibly abducted her and committed the rape.

On June 17 she got admitted to the Chilaw Hospital and as her husband insisted, she lodged a complaint with the police on June 21.
