Gunmen kill bus conductor in broad daylight

A 34-year-old Sri Lankan bus conductor was shot dead by two full-face helmet wearing gunmen riding a bike at the Tangalle bus stand on Wednesday close to midday, the ‘Divaina’ has reported.

The victim was a close associate of Amila Niroshan alias Army Amila, a notorious gangster who was shot by an unidentified man near the Tangle Magistrate’s court recently.

Eyewitnesses said the victim was standing near the driver’s door of a Colombo-bound bus when the assailants shot a single bullet from a pistol into his head at point-blank range as the coach was about to pull out. The attackers then escaped on their motorbike.

During the incident, the bus station was crowded and a traffic policeman on duty was standing a few meters away.

Police said the victim was Samarappulige Prabath Chandana of Tissa Road, Tangalle.

The police said the motive for the killing is not known and the attackers have not been identified.
