A London medical tribunal heard of a Sri Lankan origin senior doctor using his iPhone to secretly film women, including the police officer who arrested him, in public places in London, ‘Lankasri News’ reported on Tuesday.
A plain-clothes woman police constable, who noticed Dr Thilanga Kasun Iddamalgoda, behaving suspiciously, had arrested him as he sat on the steps of London’s Trafalgar Square.
The officer found out, after he was arrested and the phone was analyzed, that she was one of his victims.
A clinical fellow at Imperial College, London, the 32-year-old doctor used his mobile to capture videos of women’s private areas as he sat in the bustling square.
The officer said that around 4.45 pm she had been on duty with two other fellow officers at the square and first noticed the doctor sitting near her on the steps and later moving to sit closer to a couple sitting a step up from him.
Miss Anderson said, "There was a woman with a very short skirt on. The movement to me seemed unusual.”
“He was also shielding his phone. He could not have been shielding it from the sun because there was a lot of shading. He was shielding the screen very closely, so he did not want people to see. He did not appear to be reading a text message,” Daily Mail reported.
Miss Anderson and the other two officers had approached the doctor and explained that she was a police officer telling him she had been watching what he was doing.
The doctor has told her, “I am sorry, I am sorry. It is the first time” and though Miss Anderson believed his words, she had arrested and cautioned him.
Iddamalgoda was not at the misconduct hearing, which continues.
