Lankan movie stars protest Kollywood

Sri Lanka movie and sports stars have organized a massive ‘Adhistana Pooja’ at the Independence Square in Colombo 7 on Thursday 11 at 4.30 pm, ‘Lakbima News’ reported on Tuesday.

This is organized in response to the protest made by their Kollywood counterparts against Sri Lanka and the on-going propaganda against the Sri Lanka government.

The artistes have decided to stop all the film and tele-drama shooting on that day.

All the movie and sports stars have been requested to take part in this ‘Adhistana Pooja’, clad in white, by The National Organization of Sri Lankan Artists and this is organized under the government sponsorship. 

Six Sri Lankans on hunger strike in Indonesia

According to Indonesian media report, a total of six Sri Lankans is on hunger strike protesting poor living conditions at an Indonesian detention camp, ‘Colombo Gazette’ reported on Tuesday.
 
The six Sri Lankans, from a group of 89 detained at the centre, was demanding their transfer from the centre, and had fallen very ill after going without food for 3 days, the media reports said.
 
They further reported that despite falling sick, they will not be hospitalized and an officer in the detention centre R. Pohan said that they are supplying meals three times a day to all the detainees including those on hunger strike.
 
“This morning, we delivered the food to them, despite their hunger strike. But we could not force them to eat,” Pohan said.
 
The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in Indonesia has pointed out that the demands of the 89 Sri Lankans will not be met.

Sri Lankan Parliament told of rapes and sexual abuses in 2012

Sri Lanka’s chief government whip and Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Board Dinesh Gunawardene on Tuesday told parliament that 330 women and 1,759 children were raped in the country last year.

‘The Island’ reported on Wednesdsay that, according to the minister, 29 women and 547 children had been sexually harassed while 1,194 complaints of child abuse had been reported in 2012.

Responding to a query raised by Democratic National Alliance (DNA) MP Sunil Handunetti, the minister tabled a document containing details of abuses against women and children.

The document said the number of child rapes reported last year was higher sex crimes against women.

In 2012, 1,191 child abuse cases were recorded while incidents of sexual harassment of children and women stood at 547 and 29 respectively.
