UK expat teacher raped and robbed at knifepoint

Police in Sri Lanka is on the lookout for a man who raped a British woman at knifepoint and robbed goods worth about SLRs95,000 from her house, the

The 34-year-old woman was a teacher at an international school near Galle.

The teacher lived in a rented house with two friends who had gone to Kataragama on January 2, leaving her alone in the house.

The culprit is thought to have entered the house after breaking a window early in the morning the next day and sexually abused her  after pointing a knife at her.

He also took away her camera and some computer accessories.

Mysterious deaths of two foreigners

A 65-year-old Russian woman has been found dead in a tourist hotel in Sri Lanka on Sunday, the ‘Mawbima’ has reported.

The body of the woman, who had booked into the hotel on the same day, was found by the staff.

The cause of her death is not yet known.

Meanwhile, the ‘Mawbima’ also reported that a Malaysian software engineer had drowned in a swimming pool on Sunday night in a housing complex in Colombo.

The victim has been identified as Chan Yee Kon, 29, who worked for a Malaysian company in Sri Lanka.

Police say he could have died of a heart attack. A  post mortem was due to be held at the Colombo National Hospital.
