Woman raped,thrown into well by boyfriend

Police in Meerigama in Sri Lanka on Monday rescued a 25-year-old woman who was raped and thrown into a well by her boyfriend on Sunday night while returning home after a musical show, ‘The Island’ newspaper reported.

Police spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardana said the young woman had been allegedly dragged to a deserted area, raped by her boyfriend and with two of his friends and then thrown into a well.

She was found alive by the police at dawn. When asked how she was rescued, the police spokesman said she had phoned her brother who had alerted the police about the incident at around 4am.

She had remained in the well for more than eight hours and had managed to survive as the well had only two feet of water though it was 12-foot deep.

Meerigama police are looking for the three suspects.
