A man allegedly threatened his divorced wife with an acid attack on her, and her mother in Egypt, if she does not stay away from him here in the UAE, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AY, 41, called his ex-wife’s co-worker telling him that he wants to see his daughters and asked him to pass the woman this message: "Let her be away from my way or I will assign someone to cast acid on her at her residence in Dubai and at her mother back in Egypt," testified the divorcee's colleague MT, 47, Egyptian.

After SM, 31, Egyptian employee heard the threats passed on to her by her colleague she decided to lodge a complaint.

The accused denied the charges before the court, saying that she made up the accusations to win custody of the children after she remarried.
He also claimed she is pressurising him to lift a travel ban he put on his children.

According to the law, a mother loses custody of the children if she remarries.

The court will reconvene on March 3.
