UAE urges Iraqi parties to heed KSA call for talks

The UAE, on Sunday, announced its full support to the initiative of His Highness King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in which he called upon leaders and representatives of political forces in Iraq to meet in Riyadh under the umbrella of the Arab League, after Haj season to discuss ways out of the crisis of forming the Iraqi government.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister praised the initiative of King Abdullah and said on this occasion, "We highly appreciate the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for stability of Iraq and the region, and we assure our full support to this initiative. Therefore, we call upon all the Iraqi parties to deal with the initiative carefully in the best interest of Iraq, its people and the region.

"KSA is keen to unite ranks and keep differences at bay. Therefore, we hope that leaders of Iraqi parties will respond positively to the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques."

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed pointed out that King Abdullah has an Arab and international political weight to take the lead to restore security and stability in the region, especially at Arab level.

Meanwhile, the UAE has condemned the bombing which took place Sunday in the centre of Istanbul, Turkey. A statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as "a cowardly terrorist act." The statement stressed that the UAE stands by the Turkish government and people against terrorist attacks that aim to disrupt growth and development in Turkey.
