Woman in labour pretends to be sister

A pregnant woman posed as her sister to be able to get admission into Latifa Hospital to deliver her baby, the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard.

The woman chose to pretend to be her sister because the sister already had a medical file with the hospital.

The accused received a sentence of three months in jail.

According to records, on August 6, KI, 29, a Comoros housewife, headed to Latifa Hospital in labour.

She approached a nurse at the emergency section and posed as her sister MI.

The nurse did not find MI’s medical file in the system and this left the staff confused.

The accused then told the nurse that she used to visit a certain doctor in the hospital and gave her the doctor’s name.

“The picture in the system was not clear so I could not compare the patient with the picture,” said the clerk who opened an emergency file for the woman based on her mobile number.

The mobile number was of her sister MI.

In a previous hearing, the woman admitted to the charges and asked the court for bail.

The jury accepted her request after taking her passport.
