In a tragic incident, a three-year-old child was run over by none other than his mother who was learning to drive.

The 34-year-old mother had gotten behind the wheels for the first time in her life when she hit her son, reports The Guardian. The accident took place in June 2015. The case is on in a UK court.

The woman in a statement to the court said that she was taking driving lessons from her husband in Norfolk. Her three-year-old son and her elder daughter were playing nearby when suddenly she hit the accelerator instead of the brake and the car shot forward.

The husband was not inside the car when the terrible accident took place. He was directing her from outside. The moment the car ran over the child, he immediately picked up the boy from underneath the car and drove towards a hospital before flagging down an ambulance on the way.

However, the child could not be saved as he had suffered serious head injuries and irreversible brain damage.

The court concluded that it was a case of accidental death and decided not to charge the boy's mother for driving on the road without permission, licence or insurance, in public interest.

The court took a lenient view and the judge said: "There are very few parents who when looking back haven't said to themselves 'that was a near thing', tragically this ended as disastrously as it did."

The couple were devastated by the loss of their 'darling little man'. "Life will not be the same without him."
