At least 14 people were killed in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday when a bus plunged into a river, police said.
Senior police official I.G. Shukla said said the passenger bus carrying 24 people lost control and toppled into the Varuna river near the holy Hindu city of Varanasi.
Eight others injured in the crash were taken to hospital, he added.
India has the highest annual road death toll in the world, according to the World Health Organization, with accidents caused by speeding, careless driving and poor roads.
