A court in France on Thursday ordered a 26-year-old man to pay 200,000 euros ($256,000) to energy giant EDF in damages for a false bomb threat called in to a nuclear power station.
Abdallah Benyahia was in September found guilty and jailed for eight months for having made the false threat to the Gravelines power station in northern France.
He had drunkenly called in the threat on the night of September 23 to September 24, the court found, in a bid to anger his father-in-law who worked at the plant.
EDF claimed the damages after maintenance work at the plant was delayed by six hours because of the threat.
