The eldest son of tycoon Carlos Slim, the world's richest man, will marry this weekend in a lavish celebration expected to include fellow magnates, politicians, sports stars and hundreds other guests.
Carlos Slim Domit, the 43-year-old car racing enthusiast and one of the apparent heirs to a fortune of over $50 billion, will wed Maria Torruco, the daughter of a Mexican tourism entrepreneur and grandchild of a well-known actress.
The reception, originally planned to take place at Slim's new art museum, part of a complex being built for an initial investment of $750 million, will be held instead at an upscale Mexico City hotel, a source familiar with the event said on Wednesday.
Slim Domit, nicknamed ``el Charal,'' or 'the Minnow' for his slender frame, heads the board of Telefonos de Mexico, Mexico's top fixed-line phone provider.
Two brothers of Slim Domit's five siblings also occupy senior posts in companies controlled by their father, who climbed to the No. 1 position in Forbes' list of wealthiest businessmen this year, beating Microsoft founder Bill Gates and U.S. investor Warren Buffett.
Also on the initial guest list are Spain's former Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez, a long-time friend of the Slim family, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, and Buffett himself.
Despite expectations for a posh party, the bride and groom registered for wedding gifts at department store Sears, part of Slim's retail group, requesting presents ranging from a kitchen bowl set worth about $2 to a $3,360 ice-making.
