US House votes to slash spending this year
The US House of Representatives on Saturday approved a government funding bill for this year that slashes spending and blocks some regulations, setting the stage for a showdown over spending with the Senate.
The House voted 235-189 for the funding bill after more than four days of debate and hundreds of amendments including ones to prevent funding for implementing the new healthcare law.
The bill goes to the Democratic-led Senate, which is likely to reject the deep spending cuts and efforts to stop implementation of the year-old healthcare law and other regulatory measures.
