It's a hijack....ooops.. no, coffee spill

A US pilot sparked a hijacking alert after spilling his coffee on the controls, issuing a distress signal and forcing the plane to divert.

The United Airlines flight from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany, was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Canada, reports Orange News quoting Daily Telegraph.

The flight landed safely in Toronto after the coffee spill caused distress signals to go out, including code 7500, which means hijacking or unlawful interference.

A report on Transport Canada's website said the pilot "had inadvertently squawked a 7500 code after spilling coffee on the aircraft's radio equipment, which interfered with the communications equipment".

"The flight crew had advised that they had communication problems and subsequently reported that they had some navigation problems as well and from there the pilot in the command diverted the flight onto Toronto," Maryse Durette, a Transport Canada spokeswoman, was quoted as saying.

The Boeing 777 was carrying 241 passengers and 14 crew members. They were flown back to Chicago on another plane and put up in hotel rooms overnight before catching a later flight to Frankfurt.
 

Woman dials 911 to force lover to propose

What's the best way to get your boyfriend propose to you? Well, a Chicaco woman thought it best to 911.

Dialling the police emergency number, Ana Perez, 40, announced she was being attacked by her boyfriend. But when police rushed to the scene, she changed her line and said she just wanted to scare him to propose to her, reported Chicaco Times.

But the police didn't find it amusing and booked her for disorderly conduct.

Terming the move as "ridiculous", Captain Ronald Pontecore said officers raced to the scene believing she was under attack.

"She called 911 to scare him and have the police force him to marry her," he said.

In fact, her boyfriend was breaking off and had no plans to marry her.

Stray dog holds freeway traffic

A stray German Shepherd sent motorists haywire on a freeway in Philadelphia, US, and nearly got hit by fast-moving cars several times until help arrived.

As reported by CBS News, the female German Shepherd criss-crossed the northbound interstate, often bringing traffic to a standstill.

Careful motorists either slowed down to allow the dog to pass, or just stopped on the freeway. Some even got down and tried in vain to tether it.

But help came only when police arrived and had to Taser it when one of it tried to attack an officer.

Now under the care of the local SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) centre, rescuers gave it a name – Northbound, for the acts it staged on the northbound freeway.

After a much-needed scrub, Northbound is undergoing tests to determine its health.

Real-life superhero scares away carjacker

A man whose car was being broken into, and fumbling to dial 911, saw some real action when a real-life “superhero” dashed in and chased the potential carjacker away.

Wearing tights, the masked man saved the day of the man who identified himself only as Dan who said help arrived before he could even finish dialing 911, reports Kiro TV.

The “superhero” later identified himself as “Phoenix Jones” and told Dan that he was wearing a bullet proof vest and carried a Taser gun, and a tear-gas spray can with him to thwart any attacks.
