A Saudi girl donned men’s clothes, covered her face and replaced her ill father as a home delivery person at a local restaurant. The trick worked for several weeks before she made the mistake that exposed her—putting henna on her hands.
Saleha, who learned driving when she was a teen ager, proved to be as efficient as her father before she was discovered by a local man when he noticed that she had henna on her hands. He quickly informed the other villagers in the southern province of Asir.
Senior villagers who visited her house to see her ageing father were told that she decided to secretly replace him after he fell ill and could not longer manage the car. She said that she was paid SR4,000 by the restaurant and that she was using the money to support her ill father, her mother and five jobless sisters.
“The father had thought the villagers came to his house to rebuke him….but he was surprised when they welcomed the idea and praised his daughter for her dedication to him and the family,” Sharq Arabic language daily said.
“After that visit, Saleha continued to work for that restaurant but in women’s clothes this time…she drives her car just around the village away from city streets.”
