Sinkhole swallows woman drying clothes

A 45-year-old woman was swallowed by a 9.8-feet sinkhole that opened up under her while she was hanging clothes in her garden in Melbourne, Australia.

The ground gave away and she fell into the dirt and mud, dropping about three metres and landing in waist-deep water, paramedics told News.com.au. At one point her head was under water, but she didn't try escaping fearing the mud caving in further, reported uk.news.yahoo.com

She was inside the hole for about half-an-hour calling for help before she was rescued. The report added that she was not injured though 'shaken up a bit'.

City officials said it was an 'isolated incident' as a result of an improperly filled well that had deteriorated over the years'.
