Council forces smoking staff to clock off when they puff so they do same amount of work as non-smokers, reports Daily Mail.

Authorities in Norfolk are planning to crack down on the number of breaks in order to get better value from its employees as well as to lower constant source of friction among smokers and non-smokers.

If the proposed rule is implemented, employees indulge in a smoke too often will have to work extra to make up for the lost time and make sure they are pulling their weight as much as the non-smokers.

Move has also attracted a lot of criticism from pro-smoking lobby groups who have branded it the 'tyranny of the majority', said the newspaper.

The policy is due to be discussed by the council's general purposes committee later this week.
