Social media 'set on fire' challenge burns boy

A 15-year-old Florida boy is recovering from burns after he asked a friend to ignite his clothes in a social media stunt called "the fire challenge."

The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday that the teen doused himself with rubbing alcohol and then asked a friend to light a match and hold it to his clothes.

The boy burned his arms and his back Monday night. He was in stable condition at an Orlando hospital. The teen told investigators that he willingly participated in the stunt.

Detectives are exploring possible culpable negligence charges against two friends who were with the teen. But the sheriff's office says the case will be forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for review.
