Goats to vie in beauty contest in Saudi

More than 170 goats will line up a massive field in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to vie in a beauty pageantry that will attract thousands of cattle owners and fans, newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Tuesday.

The “Queen Goat of Hijaz” contest will be held in the central town of Makkah and each of the participants is worth at least SR70,000 ($19,000), they said.

“The winner will be picked according to its looks, body built, walk and characteristics,” Kabar newspaper said.

Located in western and central Saudi Arabia, Hijaz is one of the largest provinces in the Kingdom and it includes the Red Sea port of Jeddah, the second largest Saudi city, and the two sacred towns of Makkah and Madina.
