Sister Act: Nun Cristina rocks 'The Voice'

Published

It began with Whoopi Goldberg and if you don’t recognise that name then well, ask your parents.

What the Hollywood movie ‘Sister Act’ did for convents and nuns is what Pope Francis now, in a sense, is being credited with doing for the Roman Catholic church – presenting an accessible and extremely down-to-earth reality of the clergy. Whoopi Goldberg conquers the hearts of nuns and escaped the mob all with a song and dance.

The movie released in 1992 and did so well that it spawned a sequel ‘Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit’, the following year. Italians and now YouTube viewers across the world are being conquered by another nun doing a song and dance routine.

Only Sr Cristina Scuccia, a 25-year-old member of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family is the real deal and she has appeared on ‘The Voice of Italy’, the Italian version of ‘The Voice’.

Her rendition of Alicia Keys’ ‘No One’ stunned the judges and the sister had her own cheering team with four sisters from her community as well as her parents in the crowd.. When asked if she is really a nun, she replied, “Yes, I am truly, truly a sister.”

Sr Cristina is now trending on Twitter with “#suorcristina.”
