Arsenal is not only becoming easy prey to rival Premier League clubs this season but is continuing to become a feeder club for Europe’s elite clubs.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny appears to be the latest target of European champions Barcelona who won a protracted battle in the close season to land Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas.

Szczesny is content at the Emirates Club at present but has indicated he would welcome the chance to join Barcelona in the future.

Poland international Szczesny, 21, has been linked with a move to the La Liga giants being in fine form for the Gunners so far this season, despite their poor start to the Premier League.

Szczesny signed a new long-term contract at Emirates Stadium in November 2010, having firmly established himself as Arsene Wenger’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The ambitious youngster considers Arsenal “his second home” but on the recent speculation over his future, Szczesny told polskathetimes.pl: “I can’t declare that I will spend my entire career here, but if I leave I will have a very important reason or I will go to Barcelona.”

Szczesny added that any decision to leave Arsenal would not be financially motivated.

He said: “I can’t imagine a situation where I would leave this club just for money.”

Szczesny has stated his ambition to captain the one day with Robin van Persie being handed the arm band following the exit of Fabregas. With Arsenal lacking leaders on the pitch after the twin exits of Fabregas and Samir Nasri, Szczesny has put up his hand to marshal their fragile backline.

He said: “I feel that when I say something, everyone listens to me. More so on the field than in the dressing room, but that’s more important I think.

“I want to be the captain of the team. I feel that I am able to take on that responsibility. I always wanted to be captain and if I ever get that honour, I will gladly put on the armband.”
