Andrey Arshavin, the man Arsenal fans love to hate, has decided to disappoint them by stalling his departure from the Emirates.

The Russian striker is holding out for a move to Zenit St Petersburg in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

A target of another Russian side mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala, Arshavin appears to have spurned their bid to seal a deal before their transfer window shuts on February 24.

Although Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has publicly proclaimed his backing for the 30-year-old Arsenal misfit, he has opened the door for Arshavin to go.

Arsenal may be willing to sell once Gervinho returns from the Africa Cup of Nations.

But Arshavin is believed to favour a move to former club Zenit, even though Arsenal are keen to get the deal done and cash in now.

Arsenal want around £6 million for the midfielder, who joined from Zenit for £12 million in January 2009 and now has less than 18 months left on his contract.

Arshavin has failed to deliver for Arsenal this season and was jeered by a section of the Emirates faithful when he came on as a substitute for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a Premier League clash against Manchester United.
