Dimitar Berbatov could be on his way to Fulham next month if Martin Jol has his way.

Jol wants to take the Manchester United striker on a loan move if United boss Sir Alex Ferguson fails to sell him to a big-money buyer, according to 'The People'.

Berbatov's poor display in the 2-1 midweek League Cup defeat by Crystal Palace is likely to push him closer to the exit door at Old Trafford.

The Bulgarian, 30, has started only one Premier League match this season and is behind Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order, with the injured Michael Owen also in the picture.

Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala want Berbatov, but he prefers staying in a major European league.

Jol signed Berbatov for Tottenham in 2006 and the frontman enjoyed the best season of his career working under the Dutchman.

He would love to link up with Berbatov again – especially with Bobby Zamora unsettled at Fulham. Zamora will only be allowed to leave for £12 million.

Jol has been charged with reducing the average age of Fulham’s squad, so there is no chance of a permanent Berbatov deal.

Any loan would also need United to pay half of his £110,000 wages each week.
