Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are set to battle for Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, currently at Ajax.
Andre Villas-Boas may be the frontrunner simply because he already has Toby’s Belgian teammate - Jan Vertonghen.
Brendan Rodgers, despite his striker problems upfront, has also to deal with a leaky defence – shipping three goals against Swansea in the League Cup.
Alderweireld is reported to favour a move to England and Rodgers might move for the Ajax centre-back.
Villas-Boas’ Spurs side, who also lost in the League Cup, need more defensive options as well.
Ajax are reported to have priced the player at £8million.
Atletico Madrid are also interested in the defender..
According to The Metro
if Tottenham can pull off the deal, Alderweireld is expected to remain on loan at Ajax until the end of the season.
