Manchester United's star winger Nani could be sidelined for out several weeks with a foot injury.

The Portugal winger was forced off at the Emirates in the 75th minute of United's 2-1 win against Arsenal on Sunday and travelled home with the foot in a protective plastic boot.

Swelling on his foot has resulted in a delay in having a scan, with it being feared he has suffered a metatarsal injury.

There has been no word from United on the issue, but the Daily Mirror is claiming he could be sidelined for two months.

The 25-year-old has been in superb form this season, scoring eight goals and providing numerous assists.

Losing him would be a major blow for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, who have had a series of injury problems this season.

It seems certain that whatever the extent of the injury, Nani will miss United's FA Cup clash with Liverpool at the weekend.

Rio Ferdinand is also doubtful for the trip to Anfield with a back problem, but the good news for United is Ashley Young is fit to replace Nani on the wing and Phil Jones has recovered from his ankle injury at Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney also boosted United ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie at Liverpool when he warned Alex Ferguson's team are ready to hit top form.

Rooney said: "We relish this part of the season."
