Abu Dhabi Gymkhana and Danube Lions notch wins

UAE players hogged the limelight in the two matches played in the DCC Elite Cup 50 overs tournament at the Fair ground oval in Dubai over the week-end. 

Irfan Haider and Rohan Mustafa played match winning roles to lead Abu Dhabi Gymkhana and Danube Lions to facile wins in the Dubai Cricket Council run tournament.

Abu Dhabi Gymkhana rattled off 252 runs riding on good batting essays from Irfan Haider who made 62 and Ali Azmat who top scored for his team with a knock of 75 before he was run out.
Irfan hit six fours in his knock while Azmat slammed eight fours and a six.

Sajjad Saeed then hoisted three sixes, while  Awais Aftab  struck a quick 39 runs to help their team race to 252 runs.

Farooq Cricket Club lost two early wickets as Adeel Raja picked up Asim Saeed and Ahmed Shaukat to jolt them.

Experienced Rashid Khan then played a patient knock and found a good ally in Aamir Ifthikar who made 28 runs with two fours.

Rashid shepherded the other batsmen and kept his team in the hunt with a knock of 53 off 77 balls hitting a six and four boundaries before he was picked up Irfan Haider who had earlier taken the wicket of Aamir Ifthikar.

Shehzad Khalid remained unbeaten as their innings folded for 187 runs.

In the second game a strong Ibsons team was restricted to 183 runs as spinners Sanjeewa Dias and Rohan Mustafa bowled telling spells bagging four and three wickets respectively.

UAE all-rounder Fayyaz Ahmed coming in to bat at number eight top scored for them with a whirlwind knock of 44 runs in 17 balls in which he hit seven fours and two sixes  to helpIbsons notch 183 runs.

Earlier Ibrahim Malik contributed 30 runs while Baber Malik 33 with two sixes.

In reply Danube Lions ensured their second win with a good start by their openers Asif Iqbal 23, and Andri Berenger 53, putting on 64 runs for opening stand in the first 16 overs.

Young Andri hit five fours in his knock of 53 which gave his team the required impetus to push on.

Skipper Syed Maqsood utilised his vast experience to ensure a win for Danube making 50 runs in 83 balls with three fours to scamper past the target in 48 overs.

Rohan Mustafa rounded off a good day making 26 with two fours to bag the man of the match award.
