Another top class effort by Mohammad Azam led Eurocon CC to a 28-run win over Wings XI CC in the 39th Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Azam sealed his second successive man of the match award coming up with another brilliant allround performance that included a half century and a four-wicket haul at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Preferring to bat first, Eurocon received an early jolt when Wings XI bowler Peter Connel struck twice in quick succession.
Abdul Rauf (26) and Safdar Naize began the revival act sharing an important 59-run stand for the third wicket.
Nasir Aziz (36) joined Naize and the duo further consolidated the innings as the latter reached a well deserved half century in 79 deliveries with the help of a boundary and a six.
However, Connel continued to bowl well as he removed Aziz to claim his fourth victim.
But the arrival of Azam changed the frame of the game as he hit three sixes and one boundary to score a gritty 68 from 70 deliveries.
He was well supported by Umair Khan (27) before Eurocon were all out for a healthy 233 in 49.3 overs.
For Wings XI, Nisar Abbas picked up three wickets in his 10 overs.
Wings XI made a steady start with openers Mohammad Bilal (42) and Riffat Ullah (8) sharing a 40-run partnership for the first wicket.
UAE player Shaiman Butt’s 42 from 75 balls looked threatening but Azam and Aziz bowled well in tandem as they shared seven wickets between them to completely derail Wings XI chase.
Sajjad Ali (36) and Connel (18) delayed the inevitable before the Wings XI were bundled out for 205 in 47.5 overs.
Azam took four for 25 while Aziz claimed three for 31.
