Mohammad Azam’s superb all-round performance ensured Eurocon coasted to victory against Multiplex International LLC in the 39th Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Azam first scored a gritty half century and then returned to pick three important wickets as Eurocon registered a 69-run victory at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Electing to bat first, Eurocon made a breezy start with opener Shakoor Khan scoring a 25-ball 45 consisting of five boundaries and two sixes.
Safdar Naize’s 31 came from 62 balls while Nasir Aziz took 24 balls to score 19 which drastically slowed down the run rate.
Azam (59, 72, 2x4) stepped up the ante but again was cautious as he and Umair Khan (40, 39b, 4x4, 1x6) bolstered the total adding 72 runs for the sixth wicket.
Ghafoor Butt (18) and Waqas Alvi (16) chipped in with useful contributions as Eurocon reached 265 all out in 48 overs.
For Multiplex International, Zaheer Ahmed bagged three wickets while Sharaz Khurram and Tanveer Raza accounted for two each.
It was not an easy chase for Multiplex International but Usman Khalid still managed to give a positive start scoring a run-a-ball 32 with the help of five boundaries.
But wickets fell at regular intervals despite superb knocks from Kashif Mohammad (27), Saqib Maqsood (54, 52b, 5x4, 1x6) and Yasir Mohammad (36, 53b, 2x4) as Multiplex International were all out for 202 in 43.5 overs.
