Hawks, Tigers win Nissan Gulf Cup opening matches

YTCA Hawks and YTCA Tigers chalked out comfortable victories in their respective opening under 17 and under 14 cricket matches of the 10th edition of the Nissan Gulf Cup 2012 organised by Young Talents Cricket Academy (YTCA) under the aegis of the Dubai Cricket Council.

The tournament is sponsored by Nissan Middle East, UniCare Medical Centre, Sana Jewellers, Winterhill Largo, SanDisk, Sport360, Suno1024, The Sevens and India Club.
 
In the under 17 match played at The Sevens ground, Hawks defeated YTCA Falcons by four wickets while in the under-14 game, Tigers beat YTCA Falcons by seven wickets.

YTCA Falcons, batting first, were restricted to 91 for nine in 22 overs. Hemant Shaji was the lone batsman to impress with 35 off 44 balls in the face of some superb bowling by the Hawks’ trio of Liam (2-14), Rahul Bhatia (2-28) and Shiv Mehra (2-15).

In reply, Hawks were able to reach the target without much difficulty scoring 92 for six in 20.1 overs. Ali, who scored 22 off 23 balls and Mehul with 24 off 33, helped Hawks to victory.

In the under 14 match, Tigers added to Falcons misery by posting a seven-wicket win.

Falcons, batting first, cashed in on their rivals generosity of 49 extras to score 111 for nine.

However, Faiz’s brisk knock of 32 off 28 balls and Sparsh Hegde’s unbeaten 29 helped Tigers score 112 for the loss of three wickets.
