IPL6: Chennai trounce Hyderabad by 77 runs

Chennai Super Kings completely outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 54 of IPL trouncing the hosts by 77 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Chasing a record target of 224, Hyderabad were never in the hunt after beginning on the wrong foot losing Dhawan run out in the second over finishing on 146-8.

Parthiv Patel gave them hope with a positive knock of 44 off 30 balls with six boundaries and a six.

But the rest of the top order failed to fire as they buckled under pressure.

Perera briefly threatened to pull them out of the rut smashing two sixes and a six in his 13-ball 23.

Karan Sharma hit a defiant unbeaten 39 off 33 balls with three boundaries and six to bring some respectability to their run-chase.

Mohit Sharma had the best return of two for 28.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings powered by half centuries from Michael Hussey (67) and Suresh Raina (99 not out) made a record 223-3 after being put into bat.

Murali Vijay made a breezy 29 off 20 balls smashing three consecutive sixes off one over from Sharma.

But it was Hussey and Raina who set alight Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium by plundering 133 runs off 72 balls during their second wicket stand.

Hussey smashed four sixes and five boundaries in his 42-ball 67 to regain the Orange Cup.

Raina continued the onslaught with some terrific batting blasting 11 fours and three sixes in hi 52-ball 99.

Dhoni fell cheaply while Jadeja cracked three boundaries in his unbeaten 14.

Ishant Sharma recorded the worst IPL figures of 4-0-66-0 while Perera claimed three for 45.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS INNINGS

Sammy goes for 20 in the final with Raina hitting a couple of boundaries but ends one short of a century as Chennai set a new ground record of 223-3.

Jadeja hits a couple of boundaries off Steyn providing no respite for Hydrabad. CSK 203-2 in 19 overs.

Raina continues to plunder runs hammering full tosses from Perera for a boundary and a six. CSK 193-3 in 18 overs.

Steyn drops a skier off the first ball from Dhoni but Sharma takes a brilliant catch on the boundary to dismiss the Chennai skipper. CSK 183-3.

Ishant's figures of 4-0-66-0 are the worst in IPL history surpassing Dinda's figures of 4-0-63-0.

Ishant goes for 25 in his final over as Raina blast a six and four boundaries. CSK 177-1 in 17 overs.

Raina completes his half century off 35 balls while Hussey regaining the Orange Cap by slamming Mishra over extra cover for a six. CSK 152-1 in 16 overs.

Perera goes for 12 with Hussey and Raina hitting a boundary apiece. CSK 136-1 in 15 overs.

Another good over for Chennai with eight runs coming off Mishra. CSK 124-1 in 14 overs.

Hussey completes his 21st IPL half century off just 32 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. CSK 116-1 in 13 overs.

Raina is dropped by Karan at point off Mishra. CSK 111-1 in 12 overs.

Sammy's first over goes for 13 with Raina hitting a boundary while Hussey hammers his third six. CSK 104-1 in 11 overs.

Hussey swings Ishant over fine leg for a second six as Chennai power their way 91-1 at the halfway stage.

Hussey is unbeaten on 40 and Raina is on 20.

Hussey hits the first boundary of the match punching Ishant to midoff and follows it up with another boundary over extra cover. CSK 11-0 in 2 overs.

Steyn opens the attack and bowls a maiden over to Hussey.

Hyderabad have won the toss and put Chennai into bat.
