IPL6: Kolkata win low-scoring thriller against Bangalore

Kolkata Knight Riders won a low scoring thriller against Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets on a slow surface at Ranchi on Sunday.

Chasing a small target of 116, the Knight Riders ran into heavy weather but coasted home comfortably in the end with four balls to spare.

Kolkata kept alive their faint qualification hopes while Royal Challengers remain rooted at fourth on 16 points with Sunrisers Hyderabad barely nosing ahead on a better net run rate.

After the shock dismissal of Bisla for a duck in the second ball, Kolkata set about their task cautiously against some tight bowling.

Kallis steadied the innings with a fluent knock of 41 off 45 after they slipped to 61-3 in the 11th over with Gambhir and Pathan back in the pavilion.

Manoj Tiwary smashed a breezy 24 with three boundaries before falling in the 18th over.

Vinay Kumar claimed two for 17 while Karthik picked up one for 17.

Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore put into bat at Ranchi struggled to reach 115-9 against some disciplined bowling.

Gayle top scored with an uncharacteristically laboured knock of 33 off 36 balls hitting just one boundary and a six.

Kolkata struck at regular intervals with Kohli (17) being bowled by Kallis while AB de Villiers (28) was caught behind off Balaji.

Narine choked them in the middle overs after claiming the prized wicket of Gayle to finish with excellent figures of four for 22.

Kallis claimed two for 17 while Balaji finished with two for 22.

RCB are locked in a mid-table race with four other teams for three spots in the IPL 2013 Play-Offs.
