The West Indies stunned mighty Australia by eight runs on Wednesday to enter their first women's World Cup final, a result that knocked out defending champions England.

The West Indies and Australia topped the Super Sixes table with eight points each, while England can finish with only six points even if they defeat New Zealand in their last match later on Wednesday.

The West Indies, who were shot out for 164, hit back to dismiss Australia for 156 in 48.2 overs in a dramatic finish in Mumbai, with left-arm seamer Shanel Daley claiming three for 22 in 9.2 overs.

Off-spinner Stafanie Taylor took two for 26 as the Australian women collapsed spectacularly with Alex Blackwell playing a lone hand of 45.

The upset win was set up by Deandra Dottin, who smashed one six and 10 fours in her 67-ball 60 that lifted the West Indies to a challenging total.

It was Australia's first defeat in the tournament, but the five-time champions will get a chance to avenge the loss when they clash with the West Indies in Sunday's final in Mumbai.

In another match, South Africa registered their first win in the Super Sixes round when they beat Sri Lanka by 110 runs in Cuttack. Both teams finished with two points each.

Sri Lanka, chasing a 228-run target, were bowled out for 117 in 36.4 overs.
