Beckham returning to Galaxy

English star midfielder David Beckham will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, the Major League Soccer club announced on Wednesday.

The former England captain said that he has reached an agreement on a new two-year contract. His five-year deal worth ê32.5 million dollars with the Galaxy expired at the end of last month.

"This was an important decision for me," Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said.

"I had many offers from clubs from around the world, however, I'm still passionate about playing in America and winning trophies with the Galaxy."

The deal was expected to allow for a sabbatical from MLS that would allow Beckham to play in the London Olympics, to be staged in late July and early August, during the MLS campaign.

Beckham, who will turn 37 in May, rejected on offer from French giants Paris-St. Germain. Motivation for that move is believed at least in part to be because his wife and four children enjoy living in Southern California.

"I am thrilled that David has chosen to re-join the Galaxy, especially as he had numerous options where he could continue his career," Galaxy general manager and coach Bruce Arena said.

Beckham won the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award last season and helped the Galaxy to the MLS Cup title.
