Campbell keeps Cardiff on course for EPL promotion

Cardiff remain firmly on course for promotion to the Premier League after Fraizer Campbell scored on his debut to give the Championship leaders a 1-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday.

Campbell joined Malky Mackay's side from Sunderland in midweek and the striker came off the bench to secure all three points for his new club when he turned in Craig Bellamy's shot with his first touch in the 64th minute.

That was enough to give Cardiff a 10-point lead over both second placed Leicester and third placed Hull.

With Leicester winning against Wolves on Thursday the pressure was on Hull to win their game in hand at Millwall and Steve Bruce's side rose to the challenge to remain level on points with the Foxes in the race for automatic promotion.

They were given a helping hand by a poor backpass from Millwall defender Mark Beevers that allowed David Meyler to score the only goal in the first minute at the Den.

Gianfranco Zola's Watford came from a goal down to beat Bolton 2-1 and move within touching distance of the automatic promotion places.

Marvin Sordell's penalty put the Trotters ahead but goals either side of the break from Matej Vydra and Almen Abdi earned fourth placed Watford a victory that left them just one point behind Leicester and Hull.

Crystal Palace, in fifth place, are also in the hunt for a top-two finish after beating south London rivals Charlton 2-1.

Two second-half goals by prolific striker Glenn Murray cancelled out Ricardo Fuller's 15th minute opener at Selhurst Park.

Sixth placed Middlesbrough slumped to a 4-0 loss at Ipswich, who took the points thanks to two goals from Tommy Smith and strikes from David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean.

Chris Burke scored twice as Birmingham recorded a much-needed 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

Blackpool suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Barnsley, while Derby beat Huddersfield 3-0.

There was no respite for struggling Bristol City as Jordan Rhodes scored a goal in each half for Blackburn in a 2-0 win at Ewood Park.

Martin Paterson's late goal for Burnley denied basement side Peterborough a victory as the two sides drew 2-2 at London Road.

Charlie Austin put the visitors ahead in the first minute before Tommy Rowe scored twice in two minutes in the second half to put Posh ahead.

However, Paterson denied the home side their ninth league win of the season when he struck home with just five minutes remaining.

Sheffield Wednesday moved away from the bottom with a 3-1 win over 10-man Brighton at Hillsborough.

Leroy Lita, Danny Pugh and Michail Antonio scored for Wednesday, with Andrea Orlandi's low strike scant consolation for Brighton.
