Catania and Novara draw 3-3 in Serie A

Argentine midfielder Alejandro Gomez scored an injury-time equalizer as Catania drew 3-3 at newly promoted Novara in the Italian league on Sunday.

Former Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie had given Catania the lead following a corner kick in the 14th and Marco Rigoni made it 1-1 for Novara with a penalty in the 49th.

Francesco Lodi then put Catania ahead again in the 56th with a splendid free kick over Novara's wall, but Japan forward Takayuki Morimoto made it 2-2 in the 65th by scoring with a header against his former club.

Brazilian forward Jeda gave Novara the lead for the first time in the 85th by heading in his own rebound but Gomez equalized with an intelligent angled shot to earn Catania a deserved draw.

Both sides lie in the middle of the table through five rounds. Catania has six points and Novara — which is playing in Serie A for the first time in 55 years — has five points.

Napoli leads with 10 points after beating 10-man Inter Milan 3-0 Saturday, while Juventus hosted AC Milan in another notable match later.
