Palermo claim Chelsea and Paris St Germain are battling for their Argentina playmaker Javier Pastore, according to ‘The Sun’.
President Maurizio Zamparini said: “PSG and Chelsea are the two teams in the lead on this.”
Earlier, Palermo vice-president Guglielmo Micciche was reported as stating that Pastore could be on his way to Chelsea, but added that there are also other top clubs chasing his signature, with negotiations at an advanced stage.
The 22-year-old has been linked with the likes of Roma, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter, Manchester City and Andre Villas-Boas’ side, and his Sicilian club recently confirmed a €45 million offer for him has arrived from an unnamed club.
And Micciche admitted that Chelsea is a genuine option for the Argentine international, following continued speculation over the player’s future.
“It’s very probable that Pastore will go to Chelsea, but I think there are other top-level teams who are after the player,” Micciche told Radio Sportiva.
“He wants a big club and there are advanced talks with very important teams. His agent (Marcelo Simonian) is working very well, and if someone pays the right money then we will be happy to sell him. If not, we will keep him.”
Despite the €45m offer that has been tabled, Palermo have always valued their man at €50 million and a cash-only transfer is non-negotiable, according to Micciche.
“Let it be clear, we do not want any players as part of the deal,” he concluded.
