Liverpool's hunt for a new manager could be over as Roberto Martinez will announce on Tuesday whether he takes up the job.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with the Anfield job since Kenny Dalglish was fired a fortnight ago.

The 38-year-old met Liverpool's owners in Miami on Thursday to discuss the managerial vacancy and was not put off by the huge challenge that would face any new manager, according to the Mirror.

However, Martinez has not made up his mind completely whether to accept that challenge.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan claimed on Friday the Spaniard had received an offer from Liverpool's principal owner John Henry after their meeting in Miami on Thursday.

"He went to Miami and had a very constructive meeting with the owner of Liverpool," the Latics chairman told Sky Sports News.

"They're going to talk again on Tuesday. They've made Roberto an offer and he has agreed to consider it.

"He's said, 'What are my responsibilities?' These are American owners and the rules and regulations are a bit different from what we English set down.

"Roberto is a seven-days-a-week, 12-hours-a-day worker and I don't know whether they realise how hard he works.

"He has rules and regulations to be fully in charge of football and I know he won't move anywhere unless he is fully in charge of the football.

"I think he'll give it fair consideration. Hopefully, he stays with us but, wherever he goes, he's 100% dedicated to that football club."

The Reds refused to comment since no formal offer had been made.

Martinez's appointment is likely divide opinion among Liverpool supporters, some of whom were expecting a big name to replace the sacked Kenny Dalglish.

Liverpool, who have also been linked with former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas and Swansea's Brendan Rodgers, are looking to finalise the technical director post, with which Dutchman Louis van Gaal has been linked.

But captain Steven Gerrard has already pledged his full support to Martinez should he get the job.

Gerrard, preparing for Saturday night's England friendly against Norway, cautiously welcomed the idea of Martinez taking charge.

"We'll have to wait and see," said the midfielder.

"My focus has been on the game. I'm aware Roberto Martinez has been talking to the club but all I've heard about him is positive.

"If he is going to be the manager, he's got my full support."

Liverpool fans worst nightmare? Back to Rafa

Liverpool will continue their hunt for a successor to Kenny Dalglish after Frank de Boer became the latest candidate to snub the Anfield job.

De Boer turned down the chance to speak to Liverpool as he feels he has an unfinished job at his current club, despite winning back-to-back league titles having taken over from Martin Jol in 2010.

"I am honoured by the request but I have only just started with Ajax," the 42-year-old former Holland international told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

"In Amsterdam, we are on a new path and I, along with Wim Jonk and Dennis Bergkamp - my colleagues on the technical side - want to bring success.

"That's why I will stay loyal to Ajax in the coming years."

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps also ruled himself out by saying he expects to be in charge of the Ligue 1 club for the start of pre-season training.

"It is expected that I be there next season," he told French journalists.

"When it goes badly, there is need to recharge. I will leave on vacation but it is expected that I be there (Marseille) for July 2."

Swansea's Brendan Rodgers and Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp have already stated their intentions to remain with their clubs next season.

Fenway Sports Group's American owners are determined to thoroughly examine all avenues to find the right man to succeed Dalglish.

There is no dearth of managerial talent with former England manager Fabio Capello available.

Former Porto and Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas remains one of the favourites while Wigan's Roberto Martinez has also been given permission to speak with Principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner.

But former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez who had a successful stint at Anfield and led Inter Milan to a Club World Cup title in 2010, could be the choice of the fans.
