Man Utd’s Vidic doubtful for Liverpool return

Much speculation about the return of Manchester United’s star defender, Serbia’ Nemanja Vidic for the clubs crunch game against Liverpool next weekend has been thrown into doubt after the Serbian national team coach virtually ruled his playing on Tuesday.

Coach Vladimir Petrovic has said defender Nemanja Vidic has only a slim chance of playing in Serbia's decisive final Euro 2012 qualifier in Slovenia. Injured midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa is also out.

Vidic is unfit after struggling with a calf injury since August.

"Vidic is our best defender and we sorely missed him against the Italians, but it is highly questionable how much we can use him in Slovenia because of his physical condition,” he said.

The news will sadden the legions of United fans who have felt the absence of Vidic, with United struggling to keep clean sheets.
